Dowel Pins
Chicago Dowel Co., Inc., has been manufacturing wood dowel pins
since 1950. From its beginnings as a small shop on the South side
of Chicago to its current home, a state-of-the-art, 50,000 square
foot manufacturing plant, Chicago Dowel has delivered quality, competitive
pricing, and lightning-quick leadtimes. Because our facility is
fully-integrated at one location between office and plant, special
size requests, last-minute shipments, and quality assurance is guaranteed.
All the wood used in manufacturing our pins is domestic White Birch,
kiln-dried to 6-8% moisture. Our wood dowel pins are offered in
Spiral-Grooved, Multi-Grooved ("fluted"), or smooth. We
offer Sizes ranging from 3/16" to 1 1/2 in Imperial Sizes,
and from 5mm to 12mm in Metric Sizes. Lengths are available from
3/4" to 7" in Imperial Sizes, and 25mm to 175mm in Metric
Sizes. Our diameter tolerance is +/- .003" for Spiral-Grooved
and Smooth pins, and +/- .005" for Multi-Grooved/Fluted pins.
Glue Dispersion
Which pin (Spiral-Grooved or Multi-Groove) offers the better holding
power? There is no definitive answer, as each customer's application
differs from the others. Oftentimes the manufacturer of the customer's
dowel-inserting machinery can give a preference as to which groove
would better suit its machinery. Both pins offer excellent glue-dispersion
and bonding qualities.
As each order is individually manufactured at our plant, we can
easily accommodate oversize or undersize (scant) diameter requests.
